Hello! I'm Matthew Tambiah,
the creator of FastMath
Over a decade ago, I began teaching a simpler, more efficient, and more effective approach to mental math and quantitative problem solving for candidates preparing for interviews at leading consulting firms like McKinsey, BCG, and Bain — collectively, these methods and material are known as FastMath
In the last decade, over 100,000 MBA, PhD, and undergrad students from leading MBA programs and universities around the world like Harvard, Wharton, MIT, Columbia, Stanford, Oxford, Cambridge and London Business school have learned FastMath methods through my in-person workshops and online courses. These students have used FastMath methods to land jobs at firms like McKinsey, BCG, Bain, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley and many other elite firms in major industries.
FastMath students have said that FastMath completely transformed how they think about mental math and quantitative problem solving in general, unlocked their full potential, and opened doors that they previously thought were closed to them, and that they never considered before.
I look forward to helping you become a Fast Calculator!

Course Description
Differentiate yourself from other candidates in job interviews at elite Management Consulting, Finance, Technology, and FMCG firms and on the job by becoming a Fast Mental Calculator!
Mental math and numerical calculations skills are ESSENTIAL in business and in business job interviews. Mastering the FastMath mental math and numerical calculation methods in this course will make you a Fast mental calculator and enable you to perform mental and written calculations much faster and more efficiently than others, which will set you apart from other interview candidates and peers on-the job.
When I first launched FastMath over 10 years ago, just a few of the methods in this course (such as No-Zero multiplication) would differentiate you from other candidates and your peers — now, so many people use FastMath resources and the resources FastMath inspired, that knowledge of and proficiency with these introductory methods is ESSENTIAL for success in job interviews this competitive environment.
Given the competitive job environment, it is critical to differentiate yourself from other candidates. Solving quantitative problems extremely quickly is the best way to differentiate yourself from other candidates as the time required to solve a problem is an objective metric that can be measured and improved!
Even though some FastMath methods are well known and have been widely distributed, few people take the time to absorb and master the full set of methods and material in the Fast Mental Math for Business course.
Therefore, practicing and mastering the methods in the Fast Mental Math for Business course is a great way to stand out from other candidates!
FastMath resources are recommended by the Harvard Graduate Consulting Club for mental math and numerical calculation preparation for and Case Interview calculation preparation — that’s right, PhDs students at Harvard (and Stanford) use FastMath to improve their mental math skills for job interviews. FastMath has been recognized as providing The BEST quantitative preparation for Case Interviews by many consulting clubs at leading MBA programs and universities around the world.
The calculation methods in this course are the same methods I have taught in Case Calculation workshops at Wharton, Harvard, MIT, and London Business School and which I believe have inspired all the “mental math” Case Interview prep courses on the market.
This new FastMath course simplifies the explanations of the FastMath methods, provides more detailed explanations, has more comprehensive examples compared to my first generation of FastMath courses, and has higher quality video and audio. I believe FastMath is the most comprehensive Business Calculation resource to teach the Fast calculation methods you need to succeed in Case Interviews and business Job Interviews.
I highly recommend this course for candidates preparing for Case Interviews at Management Consulting firms and business job interviews, as well as online tests, written tests, and computer tests for consulting firms that have math/quantitative components, and for anybody who works in business or wants to improve their mental math for a business or managerial role.
If you are considering hiring a one-on-one Case Interview coach or tutor to assist with quantitative skills, you should definitely enroll in this course first. I’ve been told that this course is more effective than many one-on-one coaches at teaching the Fast calculation skills needed to differentiate yourself in Case Interviews and in business job interviews.

Frequently Asked Questions
1) When does the course start and what is the course format?
This course is a self-paced online course, which means you can access the course materials on-demand at any time and from any place, with just an Internet connection.
You have access to the course materials as soon as you complete the registration process. You can start, stop, and resume the course any time you wish from anywhere in the world during your subscription period.
2) What resources does the course include?
The course includes numerous video lessons and text documents as well as numerous downloadable Calculation Drills that you can print and solve with pen and paper out along with detailed Solutions and as well as interactive online Calculation Drills.
These Calculation Drills begin with simple problems and gradually progress to more complex calculations so that you can fully master the methods with steady progression and practice without being overwhelmed. I personally deigned these Calculation Drills and have tested them with many people — they are simple and highly effective.
3) How long will I have access to the course?
There are different subscription options for this course.
4) How long does it take to learn the FastMath course material?
With all things in life, you get out what you put in!
Even just a few hours of practice can give you dramatic improvements in your mental math and numerical calculation skills.
If you put in 10 or 20 hours of practice over a few weeks or months, you should be able to master all the skills in this course.
5) What math do I need to know to take this course?
Very little!
FastMath methods are extremely simple. You just need to know your single-digit multiplication tables, how to multiply numbers by 10, and the definition of exponents: 10^2 = 10 × 10 = 100. That's it!
6) Do I need any other books or courses to take this course?
No, you don’t need any other books, courses, or knowledge to take this course. Just the basic math that is listed above.
7) What is FastMath
FastMath is a curriculum that teaches mental math, numerical calculation, and quantitative problem solving that is simpler, more intuitive, and ultimately more efficient approach to mental math and numerical calculation, when compared to “traditional math” educational resources and teaching methods, and which have an emphasis on practical business applications.
FastMath includes numerical mental math methods that simplify numerical calculation (including No-Zero Multiplication and Division) but is so much more than “mental math.” Ultimately, FastMath will teach you how to analyze and solve quantitative problems in the most efficient and intuitive manner.
8) Did you really invent No-Zero Multiplication and Division?
TLDR: Yes, I believe I did.
I began teaching No-Zero Multiplication and Division in 2013 at a workshop at Wharton and in FastMath online courses that launched globally in 2013. I believe that I was the first person to explain No-Zero Multiplication and Division using the Unit Abbreviations K, M, B, and T by writing formal mathematical definitions of each of these Abbreviations and providing the Unit multiplication facts which allow one to directly multiply Units using the
Unit Abbreviations (M × K = B).
So yes, I believe that in invented No-Zero Multiplication and Division.
If you are aware of any resources that formally taught this before 2013, please let me know. This would include explicitly defining each Abbreviation and explicitly writing out the multiplication facts using the Unit Abbreviations.
9) Why should I improve my mental math and numerical calculation skills?
Learning FastMath and improving your mental math will enable you to do mental calculations that most (nearly all) people cannot do without using a calculator or spreadsheet, which is a very valuable skill in business. These skills are also very valuable in business job interviews at management consulting, finance, and technology firms.
If you feel complacent in your job and aren't interested in improving, then you don't need this course. If you want to advance your career and increase your income, improving your mental math, numerical calculation, and quantitative problem solving skills is one of the best things you can do.
10) Why should I learn mental math from FastMath?
Most people say that FastMath is the best (and the first) mental math course for Business Calculation.
I believe I invented many of the mental math methods used in Business Calculation (such as No-Zero multiplication) and have developed the best curriculum and will continue to develop new material.
In particular, McKinsey recruiters recommend FastMath to candidates who want to improve their quantitative skills for their interviews with McKinsey. fits tI believe that in invented No-Zero Multiplication and Division.
